Novice and Monks' Training and Meditation Centre

Training in Vinaya discipline, the Tripitaka and meditation for newly ordained novices and monks.

Training centres for novices and monks play a vital role in teaching sound religious precepts, ethical living and Buddhist philosophy. Our centre focuses on these areas:

  • Vinaya and discipline. Training in strict observance of the Vinaya rules and the Kathina Civara (robe-offering) traditions established by the Buddha, building a disciplined way of life.
  • Religious and scriptural knowledge. Opportunities for proper study of, and research into, the Tripitaka and Buddhist philosophy.
  • Meditation and spiritual practice. Regular meditation and contemplation to develop mental calm and spiritual excellence.
  • Social service and outreach. Spreading the Buddha’s teachings among the public, and training preachers who can nurture morality and human values in society.
  • Preserving our heritage. Carrying forward the legacy of ancient centres of learning such as the 8th-century Salban Vihara and the other monasteries of Lalmai-Mainamati, and grooming a new generation of qualified monks.
